Happy Fall!

Hello!

I know it's been really long since I've updated... and I think that's because I actually forgot I had this page. Does anyone really use xanga anymore? Facebook is the thing of now, I believe.

What can I say? I'm back to BU, for my second (and final) year of my master's degree. I'm ready to be done with school - just let me practice and make some money with my talent, no more classes, please!

My recital is December 1st. I decided to get my last recital done with this semester, because I knew I would have lots of other recitals to play next semester (and I was right: 8, count them, 8 full degree recitals will I be playing within the span of March and April...). My teacher recommended I do some major Classical and Romantic works, so my recital comprises of 75 minutes of music, including Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel. Yesssssss, it'll be long but beautiful (at least the music, and hopefully my partners and I will realize the composer's intentions to the best of our ability!).

That's about it. I love Boston, and hope to stay here for a while, gigging and making money with my collaborative piano skills.

Catch me on facebook!

Happy ValentinesITSSNOWING Day!

Yay for snow!

So I was reading the past entry, and it definitely caught the bad end of my situation. I really do love Boston, and I love music. I've just found that there is so much to learn and I have so much ahead of me that it is frustrating to not be able to master everything at once.

Busy is my life.

Recital is coming along, with gentle (!) prods towards my soloists. I'm still a bit worried about Friday's grade, but I've filled my teacher in about everything that has happened (and, indeed, has NOT happened) and I don't see why I should be punished for that. My recital is going to rock. I just gotta keep calm and remember:

MUSIC IS FUN.

About the snow: it is more like sleet/rain/ice/wintrymix/etc. that is going to freeze all night cos the temperature is below zero and it's gonna stay like that all day tomorrow! BU closed today at 3pm (though I was there till 7pm practicing, of course) and maybe it won't reopen tomorrow!

Oops....

So who completely forgot about xanga? Me.

I'm in Boston. It's cold, but not snowy. I am so utterly busy with learning new music everyday that I am beginning to get burnt out. I feel like I need a holiday.

My recital is in 3 weeks. My hearing is this Friday, which is graded. I get no grade for my actual recital performance. Thus, everything needs to be perfect by Friday. However, I've yet to meet with a singer, and my bassist has to leave town until Wednesday and we haven't worked through everything yet. I am trying not to stress. I want this to be apositive experience for me. I am just worried. Perhaps it was a mistake to have my recital so early.

There have been lots of changes in my family and for me personally. My friends have helped me through everything, but being out here in Boston, alone, is becoming hard for me. I truly love the city, but I lack the time to actually get out and meet people and make connections. I'm just feeling a little lost at the moment.

I'm trying to figure out summer plans. I've been asked to play for the Tanglewood Institute this summer, for high school vocalists. I would live in the Berkshires, play and coach all afternoon, and go to concerts in the evenings. I'm thinking about it, though I might go crazy with all of those singers.

I just feel like I'm trying to make the best out of everything and learn as much as I can. I have always set my standards for myself very high, and that is why I stress about my playing. I am in the middle of discovering new techniques in playing piano, and I feel like I have no time to develop it because of the frantic scramble to learn music and be prepared for the 9 singers, lessons, rehearsals, and recitals I have to do this semester.

In a nutshell, I love it here but I do not have inner peace. I'm trying to figure it out.

I also wish it would snow.

You may say I'm a dreamer.....

***You Are a Dreaming Soul***

dreaming-soul
Your vivid emotions and imagination takes you away from this world
So much so that you tend to live in your head most of the time
You have great dreams and ambitions that could be the envy of all...
But for you, following through with your dreams is a bit difficult

You are charming, endearing, and people tend to love you.
Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.
Underneath it all, you have a ton of passion that you hide from others.
Always hopeful, you tend to expect positive outcomes in your life.

Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul, Prophet Soul, and Traveler Soul

The Continuing Story of Bostonian Molly

[Or, "how to live in Boston, part 3"]

19. Taxi cars look just like police cars.  You know, with the dark bumper and the hooded lights and all that (I don’t know what kind of car that is). So saying that, police cars don’t look anything like police cars.  Several times I’ve been startled by taxis, thinking they were police cars, and the policemen can drive right up to me and I don’t even notice.  The big blinky lights found on typical police cars are usually flat, so they don’t stick out.  Good for sneaking up on people, I guess.

20. Seafood is the best on the coast.  It just is.  It is fresh and just tastes better (of course it helps when you are gazing out onto the open ocean…)
